And now for something completely different... rare day spent entirely at home and I nearly forgot about this! So I went to the piano and came up with a rough idea for an improvisation, and recorded it as a voice memo. I'm classically trained, studied jazz improv in college (piano major), play keys in a funk band, and teach piano professionally so this kind of thing comes naturally to me (I've actually put out two albums of piano improvs & have two more on the way), but with all that training, is often not particularly original. I specifically do NOT have a piano at my writing studio for this reason. So this feels like a bit of a cheat but I'm going with it. I was listening to the Ethiopian pianist and composer Maryam Gebru this morning so I thought, maybe do something like what she does, mashed up with some typical moves from McCoy Tyner and Keith Jarrett? I roughly plotted out an A, B, and C part and left the intro and coda up to chance. After a few tries at the form I got something that more or less works without too many inadvertent notes. Enjoy!
